Olonana Lodge

Olonana is in the heart of big game territory, Olonana is an elegant tented lodge perched on the banks of the Mara River. Undoubtedly the jewel in Africa's crown, the Maasai Mara is a mecca for game viewing and with the proximity of the river and its resident hippo and crocodile population, guests are guaranteed the most memorable of safaris. Twelve permanent tented pavilions provide fabulous accommodation with ensuite bathrooms, two queen size beds and large terraces. Traditional food is cooked by trained chefs and for those needing an informal lunch there is even a pizza oven on a deck overlooking the river.

Afternoons can be spent relaxing by the pool which is perfect for children. Whilst bird and wildlife are plentiful year round, it is during the annual migration that the really high drama unfolds; thousands upon thousands of plains game traditionally cross the river close to the lodge in a roaring, stamping, splashing spectacle impossible to imagine. There are no set schedules and guests can choose their own activities; walks with Maasai warrior guides, night and day game drives, balloon rides, bush picnics and visits to Maasai villages are just a few of the opportunities Olonana affords its guests.

In addition to big game viewing in the Masai Mara Reserve, visitors to Olonana are offered a rare glimpse of the day-to-day lives of the Maasai people in the adjacent Maasai village or 'engang'. Olonana is the only lodge in the Maasai Mara to offer such a close cultural experience with the Maasai.

Olonana features 12 spacious permanent tents, each tastefully appointed with two comfortable queen-size beds, ensuite bathrooms with showers, and large, riverview verandahs. Enjoy a quiet evening drink, cozily seated on your verandah, watching the hippos frolicking just before heading out for their nightly grazing.

The chefs at Olonana will delight you with exquisite cuisine, which can be served al fresco perched on the Siria escarpment overlooking the Mara plains or as a picnic deep in the bush. Or you can sink into the comfortable sitting area with some books from the camp's library lounge, and then enjoy a delicious dinner in the Olonana dining room overlooking the Mara River.

Olonana's quiet elegance is enhanced by highly personalized service. You are entirely at your own pace at Olonana - nothing is pre-scheduled. Meals, game drives and all other activities operate according to the guests' wishes and the opportunities presented by the changing patterns of animal activity
