Travel to chintsa and holiday vacation in east London with South Africa tour operator offering luxury chintsa hotel accommodation in chintsa budget guest house and self catering accomodation in east London travel
Geography: The pretty village of Chintsa lies north of East London, in the East Coast resorts area which is marked by little bays and river mouths. Situated on the banks of the Chintsa Lagoon, tourists will enjoy the splendid scenery of the green rural landscape as well as the dramatic river mouth and ocean views that this village offers.
History: The village takes its name from the Chintsa River, which is so named after the "crumbling" of its banks by floodwaters. The river separates the village into two areas, known as Chintsa East and Chintsa West respectively. The centre of town, Chintsa East, is situated on the northern shore of the estuary and today there is much development in the area. It is a top holiday spot for both budget and executive travellers. Tucked away behind the bushes on the estuary and overlooking the Indian Ocean are some magnificent holiday homes.
Art and Culture: The wreck of the Atalaia, which sunk in 1647, lies between Chintsa and Cefani and some of the cannons that were retrieved from the wreck can be seen in the East London Museum.
Science and Nature: This area of the Eastern Cape is truly beautiful and tourists and holidaymakers will find the rolling green hills, the rivers and estuaries, the ocean and the white sand dunes quite incredible. The area is noted for its excellent bird life, and in Chintsa there have been at least 197 species recorded. For those travellers who want to experience wildlife, the Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve is in close proximity.
Entertainment: Much of the entertainment to be found in Chintsa centres around nature and the outdoors, and the area is fast becoming a premier wilderness activity spot. For a gentle type of activity try bird-watching, cruising on the river at sunset, learning something new at a cultural village or go on a game drive, while for those looking for something a little more exciting there are 4x4 trails, abseiling and ramp jumping, mountain bike trails, quad biking and even surfing!
Sport: The newly developed Chintsa River Golfing Estate has a magnificent course and will both enthral and challenge those who remembered to bring their clubs. The famous Strandloper Hiking Trail winds its way through Chintsa, as the village's 17km shoreline makes up a section of the trail. Those who don't have the energy or the time for the full trail can now do the Strandloper Sundowner Trail which takes in all the scenery but obviates the need for one to lug a heavy backpack or endure a cold shower.
