Gombe Tented Camp \ Back to Tanzania Safaris

Gombe Tented Camp Hotel is located near the Mitumba stream at the northern end of Gombe Stream National Park. The location of the camp is in the best area: it is intellectually placed right on the lakeshore, with a spacious beach and all the tents designed and constructed under big shady trees. The camp is an absolute perfect combination of safari luxury and conservation. Due to the small size of the Gombe Park, a lot of attention was paid in the building of the camp so as to preserve the environment. The nicest aspect about Gombe Camp is the fact that it is a luxury safari accommodation in Gombe stream & a base for Chimpanzee tracking safaris or chimp tracking safari.

Gombe Tented Camp has a spacious white sandy beach, big shady trees and remarkable views over the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, especially at sunset; this is the perfect camp location. A small reception area is situated on the beach on a wooden deck under a thatched roof and also accommodates a library, information centre, curio shop, bar and lounge. The kitchen and staff area is situated a small distance from the camp so as not to interfere with the sights and sounds of nature.

Gombe Tented Camp Hotel Accommodation
Gombe Camp tents are made of heavy-duty canvas material with ample of space to relax and walk around. The tent is also very well ventilated with zip down gauze windows and roll up flap tent doors. The tents are facing the lake on raised wooden platforms to enhance the view.
The décor has been specifically chosen to give you the African Safari experience. Most of the decors were locally manufactured. Each tent at Gombe Camp contains two single wooden beds with firm mattresses; these beds can be used as twin or double. Other furnishings in the tent include a writing desk and chair, bedside table, lamp and clothes rack. To the rear of each unit are en-suite hot water shower and flush toilet. The deck has two comfortable safari chairs and a small table, which enables one to have a perfect view of the lake and the sunsets. The units are adequately spaced apart to ensure one's privacy.

Gombe Tented Camp Hotel Restaurant
Meals at the camp are a sumptuous affair: breakfasts are English style with emphasis on tropical fruits and juices. Lunches are usually light. Evening meals are three courses. The specialty at Gombe Camp is the Sangara, Kuhe, Mgebuka and Dagaa fish caught fresh from Lake Tanganyika by the local fishermen. Guests are also served traditional dishes such as Coconut Banana Meat Stew and Cassava chips.

Gombe Camp has a small reception area situated on the beach made out of local wood and a thatched roof with a wooden deck raised above the ground. The building also accommodates a library, information center, a curio shop, a bar and a lounge. For those who would like to relax, the beach has locally made cushioned lounge beds to laze on.

Chimpanzee trekking safaris are generally conducted in the mornings, returning to camp for lunch. Afternoons are determined only by how energetic you feel. You can choose between further chimpanzee trekking safari, swimming, fishing, snorkeling or just relaxing. For the more adventurous there are two spectacular waterfalls in the area, Kakombe, an easy thirty minute walk away from camp and Mkenke, a little further for the more energetic.

Gombe Stream National Park is the smallest of Tanzania’s National Parks. Gombe Stream is a thin strip of ancient forest set in the mountains and steep valleys on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, made famous by the pioneering British researcher Jane Goodall, who spent many years observing the park’s chimpanzees. The chimpanzees are the main attraction at Gombe Stream, and these remarkable mammals are as individually unique as humans. The opportunity to observe them going about their daily lives in their natural habitat is certainly an experience not to be missed.

The majority of wildlife to be found at Gombe Stream are Chimpanzee primates, in addition to the famous chimpanzees, you may see olive baboons as well as vervet, blue and red-tail monkeys. Leopard and bushbuck are also residents in the dense forest, along with fish eagles and palm-nut vultures that are often seen flying overhead. Gombe Stream is the perfect place for a walking safari, allowing you to cool off along the way with a dip in one of the many streams that criss-cross the park.
