Beho Beho \ Back to Tanzania Safaris

Beho Beho Camp Hotel is a beautifully presented lodge set high in the Beho Beho Hills. Enjoy the commanding views of the scenery from the private veranda of your comfortable and well furnished stone-built chalet. Your stay will include great dining, open fires and incredible hospitality. A swimming pool with panoramic views refreshes you after a rewarding game viewing safari. Beho Beho is as good as it gets in the Selous, Beho Beho Lodge excites and surprises. It is perched on a hillside deep inside the Selous Game Reserve.

It enjoys outstanding panoramic views, cool breezes, and is completely isolated from the outside world. There is a small river gorge in the front while the lakes shimmer in the distance. Beho Beho is an island in 55,000 square kilometers of the world’s largest unspoilt animal kingdom. Upon you arrival at Beho Beho, you will be welcomed and shown to your banda by the camp's friendly and warm staff. After drinks, you dine under the stars listening to the music of the African night. You awake at sunrise to admire a view as far as the eye can see, perhaps with elephants eating peacefully in front of your banda. Such is the Beho Beho experience!
Strictly for safari aficionados - Beho Beho has created the true 'essence' of a safari refuge, for safari travelers who have 'been there and done that' throughout the big game countries of Africa now there is a camp that takes the 'best' of each safari and combines it into one remarkable experience.

A luxurious base camp from which to explore on foot, by boat or by open safari cruiser the splendors of one of the largest game preserves in the world. Beho Beho's highly experienced and qualified guides, plan your safari programme individually each day, whether you need time to relax and be pampered or need to do a 10kms game walk before breakfast in the bush. Beho Beho's site was used for a safari camp as early as 1972; one of the first such sites in the Selous. It has a unique location in the park, sitting high on a hill in an area dotted with baobabs. In 2004 it was virtually rebuilt and completely refurbished using a mix of locally sourced materials and some fantastic furniture from Europe. It is now widely regarded as the best lodge in the Selous.

It is the only camp within Selous Game Reserve which is set away from the river – in an area with plenty of game and birdlife as well as very few other visitors. Beho Beho is furnished with a mix of comfortable sofas, Persian rugs from the owners family home and African carvings. It all results in the feel of an eccentric country home – which is all the more reinforced when you notice the family pictures that sit on the sides in the lounge and the bedrooms. However, leaving these considerable comforts aside, Beho Beho has risen to be one of the top camps in the Selous Game Reserve due to the superb quality of its guiding. Currently led by Spike Williamson and Sean Lues who were elite guide-trainers in Zimbabwe, the team here has a breadth of knowledge that is hard to match. A drive or walk with a guide from Beho Beho is absolutely fascinating.

Bush Nights are an optional extra available to all guests who stay for a minimum of four nights at Beho Beho. Starting in mid afternoon guests will leave the camp by vehicle accompanied by an armed guide, when conditions allow they will leave the vehicle and walk with the guide for approximately one to two hours through the splendid isolation of the Selous wilderness until they arrive at their Bush Camp. This is no ordinary Bush Camp, there are only two tents, suitably located for privacy along the edge of the Beho Beho sand river.

Each tent, or bush gazebo, is mostly constructed from gauze to increase the bush feeling and is totally insect proof. It also has the added advantage of an en-tent shower and loo, a 'proper' double bed and of course is sumptuously decorated with lots of '1001 nights' touches which will no doubt surprise, if not delight! Guests will be able to have a hot shower on arrival, be served a full 'camp style' dinner in a gazebo set up in the dry river bed and then enjoy an evening under the stars around the camp fire entertained and protected by their safari guide.

After a romantic night of star gazing and listening to bush sounds, the dawn will bring birdsong and early morning tea, before heading off on foot to see the animals at their most prolific, returning to the bush camp after two hours to find the breakfast table all ready and waiting and a suitably attired chef to cook up a gourmet breakfast. The intrepid guests will then be taken back to camp by safari vehicle and resume the rest of their Beho Beho safari itinerary. Supplementary cost - fully inclusive. Bush Nights must be pre-booked and are not available to be purchased in the camp.

This kind of option is fraught with local difficulties, rain, heat , dust, mud, insects, animal movements etc etc - so all bush nights will be operated at the discretion of the senior guide in camp at Beho Beho. The guide will decide which is the most suitable night of the four night’s stay that guests will be able to enjoy this activity. If for whatever reasons the guests are not able to participate in this activity a full refund will be given to the booking agent and a complimentary voucher for a bush night in the future will be given to the guests.

Beho Beho Camp Accomodation
Beho Beho has 8 individual very spacious Bandas, (stone built and palm thatched cottages) furnished with king-sized beds, Zanzibari day beds, writing desks and comfortable suite furniture. The front of the banda is totally open and extends on to a spacious verandah. The banda can be secured for the night with tented curtains or left open as desired. Each banda has a separate dressing room leading into an en suite bathroom with twin basins, high flush WC and an open air shower.

Beho Beho Camp Restaurant
Beho Beho's breakfast is usually fruit, fresh bread and a full cooked breakfast with eggs of your choice. Lunch is served at around 1pm and is a variety of hot and cold dishes such as fresh salads, Swahili dishes and light curries. Dinner is served in a few different locations in the camp and is a 3-course affair. Food is outstanding and certainly some of the best in the Selous. There was a real variety of cuisine on offer, and it was deliciously prepared. Though the food is lovely, the best thing about dining at Beho Beho was the atmosphere. All the guests and the guides would sit around one large table and enjoy a very sociable evening.Drinks are included here; this is very welcome, and very unusual for any safari camp. This includes all spirits (imported or not) and all liqueurs and all wines. The wines served are mid-range, good quality wines
