Serengeti Sopa Lodge \ Back to Serengeti National Park

Serengeti Sopa Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located in the Nyarboro Hills in the south west of the Serengeti National Park Tanzania and is the only tourism development in this section of the Park. Year-around water and the acacia woodland in this area create an ideal environment for the wide variety of wildlife seen in the immediate vicinity of the Sopa Lodge Serengeti. Being situated on the slopes of the hills, Sopa Serengeti Hotel offers magnificent views over the 14,763sq km (5,200sq. mile) expanse of the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's largest wildlife conservation area.

With an altitude of 1,615 meters (5,300 feet) the Sopa Lodge Serengeti enjoys cooling breezes. Although for most of the year the temperatures are high, the rains in November and December, April and May bring a welcome relief to the dry plains. Only the lightest of clothes are recommended although a light sweater might be needed for early mornings and evenings. The atmosphere of the lodge might encourage guests to wear more formal attire in the evenings. The double size pool offers a refreshing interlude between game drives as well as wonderful views over the rolling plains of the Serengeti. Serengeti Sopa Lodge is nestled in the acacia woodland on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous parks in the world, and host to the largest and most spectacular annual migration of the wildebeest. Is owned by Sopa Lodges Hotels Kenya Tanzania

The Sopa Serengeti Lodge has the Disneyesque feel of a theme park exhibit embellished with all the cliched accoutrements to be expected when no expense has been spared and no particular originality applied. From the outside as you approach the building appears austere and regimented, but upon arrival staff dressed in carnival apparel hurry to take your bags before ushering you into a reception area dripping with passe interiors and the grand airs of an African palace. The spacious interior leads left into a bar, and right into a dining area. To the fore lies the pool area and patio which is the focus of the establishment. Needless today the pool deck looks out onto the vast wilderness that you have come here to enjoy.

The Serengeti Sopa has far more the feel of a hotel about it than a lodge. The rooms are to the left and right of the main reception area, and are attached as opposed to separate as one would expect in a lodge. Each of the 69 twin bedrooms are en-suite, each with 2 queen size beds, and each with a French door leading out onto a balcony that quite naturally is poised towards another fabulous view. Attention to detail is good without being overbearing, and everything works. A large dining area offers a la carte dinners and buffet breakfasts, while evening entertainment is presented by an ensemble of singers drawn from the service and kitchen staff. This is a very nice touch, and CDs are available at the gift shop.

A reliable internet connection is available as well as a 3000 sq ft conference facility for meetings, presentations and private functions. A small gym is situated adjacent to the pool. Various local tour excursions can be arranged, as can a balloon safari. The facility is principally for Tanzania safari traveler’s en-route through the park and is extremely well organized in this respect. Two generators run 24-hours a day to light and power the Lodge, which is once again heavily adorned with indigenous hardwood. Even though the Sopa Serengeti is not the most thoughtful of the many luxury accommodation options in the Serengeti, it cannot be faulted where it counts. Excellent service and a fine situation, as well as comfortable and well appointed rooms, all combine to make this another potentially memorable stop.

The hotel is well appointed and like all Sopa Lodges is spotlessly clean. Accommodation although fairly spacious and the views from the terrace in front of the Lodge and from the bedrooms are simply stunning.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge is an affordable safari lodge in the central Serengeti. The Serengeti has become very expensive in recent years but with this offering you can catch the Great Migration without having to break the bank. The views are spectacular and the public areas and decks overlook the Serengeti Plains below. Serengeti Sopa Lodge was opened in 1992 and can accommodate a total of 170 guests. The rooms are huge and house two large queen size beds and there is even a small lounge area with mini bar.

The rooms are carpeted throughout and have the added bonus of having air-conditioning. In the best safari destinations in Africa the most popular lodges often book up nearly a year in advance. We have therefore reserved small allocations of rooms in some of the most popular throughout 2009 2010, meaning that we can offer to our clients the Classic Lodge safari throughout the year at an excellent price.
